Kristen Stewart and Oscar Isaac to Lead Panos Cosmatos’ ’80s Vampire Rave Drama ‘Flesh of the Gods’

Kristen Stewart is back to being a vampire more than 15 years since her breakout role in “Twilight.”

The Oscar-nominated actress is starring alongside fellow Academy Award nominee Oscar Isaac in Panos Cosmatos’ buzzy “Flesh of the Gods.” The “Mandy” filmmaker Cosmatos partners with “Se7en” screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker for the ’80s-set vampire rave drama.

The film centers on married couple Raoul (Isaac) and Alex (Stewart) who descend each evening from their luxury skyscraper condo and head into an electric nighttime realm of ’80s Los Angeles, per the official synopsis. When they cross paths with a mysterious and enigmatic woman and her hard-partying cabal, Raoul and Alex are seduced into a glamorous, surrealistic world of hedonism, thrills, and violence.

“Like Los Angeles itself, ‘Flesh of the Gods’ inhabits the liminal realm between fantasy and nightmare,” director Cosmatos said in a statement. “Both propulsive and hypnotic, ‘Flesh’ will take you on a hot rod joy ride deep into the glittering heart of hell.”

Adam McKay will produce alongside Betsy Koch through their Hyperobject Industries production company. Actor Isaac is also producing via his partner Gena Konstantinakos under their banner Mad Gene Media. CAA and WME will handle domestic rights sales with XYZ Films handling international sales at the 2024 Marché du Film at Cannes.

Production is slated to begin later this year.

“Flesh of the Gods” is the third collaboration between Cosmatos and XYZ. The duo are in development on “Nekrokosm” with A24. Cosmatos’ 2018 “Mandy” marked a career comeback role for Nicolas Cage and forged his partnership with XYZ. Cosmatos previously shut down “Mandy” sequel rumors in an interview with IndieWire, and also elaborated on his collaborations with XYZ as a way to maintain creative control over indie films.

“Flesh of the Gods” actress Stewart similarly shared her sentiments about staying away from corporate-produced franchises like Marvel. Stewart is set to make her own feature directorial debut with the adaptation of “The Chronology of Water” and recently appeared in Sundance films “Love Lies Bleeding” and “Love Me.” She also stars in “Sacramento,” which will premiere at Tribeca. Stewart recently told IndieWire’s Anne Thompson that taking on her own directorial project with “The Chronology of Water” has been a “body-ripping” and “overwhelming” experience. She is also set to pen a stoner comedy.
