Lee Escott of five-pin bowling association faces fraud charges
The Newfoundland and Labrador Five-Pin Bowling Association is trying to move forward while its suspended president, Lee Escott, faces charges of fraud.
Escott has been charged with eight counts of forgery. Court documents state that charges stem from cheques allegedly written this past April and May.
Escott has been suspended from his role as president during the police investigation. He is due to appear in court next month.
It was a challenging time for the NL5BPA this summer with its suspension from the Canadian Five-Pin Bowlers Association for not paying $20,000 in outstanding fees.
The former president of the association, Ken Byrne, said an anonymous person paid the fees and the group was reinstated to the national governing body this week.
"What this means now, that we were reinstated, it means that we can offer our full slate of programs again," said Byrne. "We can have our youth, our adults, and our seniors bowling again and in tournaments if they want to participate."
The NL5BPA is now focused on its future.
"There's a new executive stepping up," said Byrne. "There are a lot of people who have voiced their concerns, and a lot of people have decided to really come forward, help get us back on track and put us back up to the top where we were supposed to be."
