This legendary band with 20 Top 40 hits was coming to Boise in ’24. Cancer had other plans

Before it hit the road this spring, Heart hadn’t toured in half a decade.

Now the comeback journey is off this year.

With singer Ann Wilson recovering from a medical procedure, the legendary rock band has postponed the rest of its Royal Flush Tour dates in North America. Heart had been scheduled to stop at ExtraMile Arena at Boise State University on Dec. 12, with opening act Cheap Trick.

Fans are being advised to keep their tickets, which will be good for rescheduled dates.

Led by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson — the only remaining members from the classic lineup — Heart has sold more than 35 million albums, according to a media release, generating 20 Top 40 singles, primarily in the 1970s and 1980s.

In a statement, Ann Wilson, 74, explained that she recently underwent surgery, and that doctors have encouraged her “to take the rest of the year away from the stage in order to fully recover.”

“I underwent an operation to remove something that, as it turns out, was cancerous. The operation was successful, and I’m feeling great, but my doctors are now advising me to undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy and I’ve decided to do it.

“To the ticket buyers, I really do wish we could do these gigs. Please know that I absolutely plan to be back on stage in 2025. My team is getting those details sorted , and we’ll let you know the plan as soon as we can.”

Formed in 1973, Heart is known for hits such as “Barracuda,” “Magic Man,” “Straight On,” “Crazy on You,” “What About Love,” “These Dreams” and “Alone.”

The Heart postponement is the second change of plans for a classic-rock show in the Boise area during the past week.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse recently announced that after a couple of members had become sick, the group would the rest of the dates on their Love Earth Tour. Those included a planned July 28 performance at the Ford Idaho Center Amphitheater in Nampa.

After not touring since 2019, Heart returned to the road for its Royal Flush Tour earlier this year.
