Line of Duty star Lee Ingleby has landed his next TV role.
The actor, who played Thandiwe Newton's husband Nick Huntley in season four of the BBC crime series, is currently filming new Channel 5 drama The Cuckoo.
The thriller centres on married couple Nick (Ingleby) and Jessica (played by The Bay's Claire Goose) who are forced to take in new lodger Sian to help make ends meet on their dream house.
After welcoming the new tenant into their home though, Nick, Jessica and their adoptive daughter Alice soon discover that Sian is up to something very sinister.
"The series follows the story of Sian, a lodger who is taken in by Nick and Jessica," reads the official synopsis from Televisual. "They have just bought the house of their dreams, a grand doer-upper in the countryside town that Jessica grew up in. However, as the financial crisis hits the family fall on tough times and suddenly their home is on the line.
"They are forced to pull their adopted teenage daughter, Alice out of her private school and into the local comprehensive. Nick finds another job, but it's still not enough to make ends meet. With no other choice, Jessica decides they need to take in Sian as a lodger to help."
Halfpenny's Sian, described as "beautiful, flirty, and mysterious", immediately rubs her new landlords up the wrong way, "acting too familiar" with Nick, "borrowing Jessica’s clothes" and being an inappropriate influence on daughter Alice.
"Jessica quickly realises something more insidious and twisted is going on and Jessica, Nick and Alice will be forced to fight for each other and their own lives."
The Cuckoo's first episode has been written by Barunka O'Shaughnessy of The Teacher and Motherland fame, with Silent Witness and Death in Paradise writer Rebecca Wojciechowski having penned the final three episodes. Irish director Brian O'Malley, whose credits include Alex Rider and The Ex-Wife, has signed on to direct.
Cast and crew are currently on location in Ireland filming for the four-part series.
A release date for The Cuckoo has not been confirmed, but the series is expected to air on Channel 5 sometime in 2024.
