London weather forecast: Capital set for hottest day of the year so far with 25C heat on Friday

Friday is set to be the hottest day of 2024 so far, according to the Met Office, with temperatures of 25C set to be felt in London.

That temperature could be bettered further over the weekend when highs of 26C are set to be felt in the south of England.

It means that London will be hotter than Nice this weekend, with the southern French city set for 21C on Saturday and Sunday, says the BBC.

London will also be hotter than Monaco and San Remo in Italy - which are both set to top out at 21C.

Alex Deakin, Met Office forecaster, said there will be “lengthy spells of spring sunshine” for the south of England.

“Warm and sunny… Not often we’ve been able to say that in recent months,” he said of the forecast on Friday.

“It will be a little chilly in the morning but by this afternoon there will be 19C, 20C, pretty widely.”

Highs of 24C are set to be felt in the capital on Saturday and Sunday, the Met Office has predicted.

Mr Deakin continued: “On Saturday, it will be another fine day. There will be light winds and lengthy spells of spring sunshine.

“Temperatures will respond more widely into the mid 20s in the heart of England.”

He added that Sunday too will be another “fine” day and this weekend will almost certainly break the 2024 record of 21C recorded in London on April 11.

Andrea Bishop, spokesperson at the Met Office, previously warned that hayfever sufferers should also take precautions with high levels of pollen forecast for the weekend.

“There are instances of high pollen levels and UV levels over the next few days, including Saturday, so we are encouraging people to be aware,” she told the Mirror.
