Macy’s big night helps May River football. Thomas Heyward spoils former coach’s return
A roundup of Friday’s high school football action in the Lowcountry and statewide scores:
May River 35, Colleton County 16: Tanner Macy ran for three touchdowns and threw two as the Sharks defeated Colleton.
May River led 21-16 going into the fourth quarter but Macy had an 11-yard run to make it 28-16 with 9:44 left. May River put it away with Macy’s 17-yard run with 1:58 left.
The win snapped May River’s four-game losing streak and kept the Sharks alive for the postseason.
Thomas Heyward 42, Beaufort Academy 28: Tony O’Banner had four touchdowns in the first half as THA spoiled the homecoming for former coach Nic Shuford, who is now the coach at Beaufort Academy.
It was a high-scoring game in the first half as Beaufort Academy led 28-27. Jaxen Porter had three touchdowns, the third to put the Eagles up with less than a minute in the second quarter.
But Brodie Crider’s 4-yard run put THA up 34-28 with nine minutes in the third quarter. O’Banner then hit Crider on a long pass and Nicholas Robinson scored on a TD run to put THA up with a minute left in the third quarter.
James Island 31, Bluffton 12: Amontrae Scott ran for two touchdowns and Braxton Scott threw one as James Island improved to 8-0 on the season. Bluffton is now 4-4 and 1-2 in Region 7-4A, tied with May River and Colleton County. The Bobcats play those two teams to close out the season.
Lucy Beckham 38, Hilton Head Island 10: Lucy Beckham stayed in a first-place tie with James Island with a win over the Seahawks.
Barnwell 38, Ridgeland-Hardeeville 24: Jaquan Peoples had two second-half touchdowns to help Barnwell past the Jaguars. Barnwell led 18-16 at halftime and then Peoples had his two TDs, the second with a minute left in the third to put the War Horses up 31-16.
Maurice Brown had two touchdown passes to Jaquise Johnson for R-H. Johnson also had a 93-yard kickoff return for a score.
Hanahan 49, Battery Creek 13: Kevon Rivera ran for four touchdowns and Julius Hippensteel threw two in Hanahan’s victory.
Damien Freeman had a TD pass and Derrick Smalls had a TD run for BC
Whale Branch 42, Allendale-Fairfax 8: The Warriors moved to 6-0 with a win over Allendale-Fairfax.
Hilton Head Christian 38, Pee Dee Academy 0: The Eagles won their sixth straight game with a shutout of the defending SCISA 2A champions. Hilton Head Christian is now 6-2 and closes out the season against John Paul II on Thursday and then Hilton Head Prep on Oct. 27.
Pinewood Prep 42, Hilton Head Prep 18: Will Watson threw four touchdown passes to help Pinewood past Hilton Head Prep. Two of Watson’s touchdown passes were to Troy Dandridge, who also had a kickoff return for a score.
Wyatt Harmer had two touchdown passes for HHP.
Northwood 52, John Paul II 18: Austyn Gandy threw for 304 yards and three touchdowns in Northwwood’s win. Jeremiah Gandy added186 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
Christian Tilton had a 69-yard touchdown run for the Warriors.
