2 critically injured after car, OC Transpo bus collide
Two people are in hospital with critical injuries after a Friday morning crash on Heron Road involving a car and an OC Transpo bus, police say.
Ottawa Fire Services said in a news release that they were called to a high-speed collision near Heron and Data Centre Road at about 4:50 a.m.
Firefighters had to free two people who were trapped in the wreckage, the department said. Ottawa paramedics said both of those people were in the car.
Paramedics initially said one man was in critical condition when he arrived at the hospital and another adult had serious injuries, but Ottawa police said Friday afternoon that both were in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
Bus riders also injured
Three bus passengers were also hurt, two of whom were taken to hospital with minor injuries, paramedics said.
The city said in an email that OC Transpo is starting its own internal safety investigation.
Heron Road was closed between Clover Road and Riverside Drive, but it reopened around 2:30 p.m. The crash happened about six kilometres south of Ottawa's core.
Ottawa police said they want to speak to witnesses or anyone who might have dashcam footage of the crash.
