Mayo too hot, too much dust gets east Charlotte restaurant dinged in inspection

An east Charlotte Guatemalan restaurant received a “B” grade from the Mecklenburg County Health Department for numerous health violations, including improper food storage and unclean food preparation areas.

▪ Guate Linda, 6016 The Plaza, received a score of 80 during its April 23 inspection.

Health department inspectors cited the restaurant after discovering perishable foods, including chicken sauces and mayonnaise, that were open and stored in dry storage, county documents show.

The restaurant was also dinged when rust on the bottom shelf of a prep table and a “large amount of dust” on a shelf above the ice machine and in dry storage were found, according to health department documents.

Other violations the restaurant was cited for include:

  • Employee drinks on prep tables

  • Boxes of unwashed produce above ready-to-eat food in walk-in cooler

  • Refried beans and salsa stored below required temperatures

  • Several foods required to be refrigerated stored above required temperatures

  • Unlabled containers of salt and sugar

  • Employee preparing food with watch and bracelet

  • Torn gasket on two coolers in kitchen

  • Employee medicine on shelf above prep sink

This is the restaurant’s fourth “B” grade, with the previous one coming in October.

According to state law, permits are immediately revoked if a restaurant receives a score of less than 70 percent.

The Charlotte Observer contacted the restaurant for comment on its score before publication.
