Mayor appoints Philippe Schnobb as new STM chief

Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre named Philippe Schnobb as the new chair of Montreal’s public transit corporation (STM).

The former Radio-Canada journalist ran as part of the Coderre team for a council seat in the municipal election held this fall. He was defeated in his Saint-Jacques district by 36 votes, losing to Richard Bergeron’s candidate designate Janine Krieber.

Schnobb is Coderre’s pick to replace STM board chair Michel Labrecque.

His nomination passed with a council vote of 31 in favour and 24 against.

Snowdon city councillor Marvin Rotrand was renamed as vice-chair of the STM board — a position he's held since 2002.
