The How I Met Your Mother spin-off – How I Met Your Father – is making impressive progress behind-the-scenes.

Just days after Sex and the City's Kim Cattrall was confirmed for the follow-up, the new series has shared its very first official photo of the cast.

Fans have already seen Hilary Duff in character as the lead Sophie, but now How I Met Your Father has given us the chance to see Sophie, Jesse, Valentina, Charlie, Ellen, and Sid in action, too.

The brand new image from the spin-off shows the gang – Duff, Chris Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran, and Suraj Sharma – stood on what looks like the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, but is actually a virtual stage.

How I Met Your Father follows Duff's Ted Mosby-esque character Sophie as she tells her son how she met his father.

The sitcom has been described as "a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options".

Hilary Duff serves as producer on the 10-episode series, alongside HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. This Is Us co-showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are also on board as writers and executive producers.

"Carter and Craig's iconic original series revolutionised the half-hour comedy, and we are so honoured to be carrying the torch forward for the next generation – and with Hilary Duff no less!" Isaac and Elizabeth said in an earlier statement.

"We can't wait for audiences to meet Sophie and her crew, and watch them come into their own and find love in modern-day New York City.

"And we hope nobody thinks it's weird that Bob Saget will be playing old Hilary Duff's voice."

How I Met Your Father will air on Hulu in the US, while its UK broadcaster is to be confirmed.
