Michigan vs. Washington national title game features players with Florida connection

Eleven players with ties to the Sunshine State comprise the rosters for Monday’s College Football Playoff championship game.

Ten of those players are listed on Michigan’s roster, with Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. the lone Floridian suiting up for the Huskies.

Penix played high school football for Tampa Bay Tech, while Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy played his final prep season at IMG Academy in Bradenton.

Sophomore defensive back Keon Sabb and junior offensive lineman Greg Crippen also played at IMG Academy.

Jack MacKinnon took a redshirt as a freshman for Michigan this season. He played at Cardinal Mooney in Sarasota.

  • Jaylen Harrell, EDGE senior, Tampa (Berkeley Prep)

  • James Kavouklis, OL/LS sophomore, Tampa (Berkeley Prep)

It’s the first CFP championship game appearance for Michigan and Washington. The Wolverines and Huskies play Monday at 7:30 p.m. in Houston, Texas, on ESPN.
