Military Patrols Flooded Streets of Porto Alegre as Some Residents Return

The Brazilian military patrolled the flood-hit streets of Porto Alegre, in Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul, on Friday, May 17, as local media reported that some families were beginning to return to the flooded city.

Footage released by the Brigada Militar shows armed soldiers in dinghies patrolling in Porto Alegre.

At least 154 people had been killed and 98 remained missing after the state was hit by devastating floods, officials said on Friday. More than half a million were displaced by the flooding.
