Milton man arrested in sexual assault case

The Halton Police have arrested a male suspect responsible for groping a teenager in Milton.

On May 31, 2024, at approximately 3:40 p.m., a male suspect was walking along a pathway near Child’s Drive and Ledwith Drive in Milton when he approached a 15-year-old female walking her dog.

The male suspect engaged the female in conversation before grabbing and forcefully kissing her several times without her consent.

As a result of the investigation, on June 23, 2024, Sleim Basta, 70, a resident of Milton, was identified and charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and an invitation to sexual touching.

Basta has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police believe there may be additional victims, and a photograph of the accused has been attached to this media release.

Investigators ask anyone with information or anyone victimized by the accused to contact the police.
