Mindy Kaling Secretly Gave Birth to Her Third Child

Belated congratulations are in order for Mindy Kaling, who just revealed that she gave birth to her third child in February 2024. The Mindy Project creator, who is already mom to daughter Katherine and son Spencer, shared the happy news via Instagram, posting a picture of her two older kids gazing adoringly at their new sibling, plus a bump pic and a hospital pic.
“In late February I gave birth to my daughter, Anne. She’s the best birthday present I could’ve ever imagined. When things are hard, whenever I veer towards cynicism, my three kids are such a great reminder of the pure joy in my life. I’m so lucky I live in a place where I could do this by myself, on my own timeline.” I’m not crying, you’re crying. She added, “thanks for all the birthday wishes,” as she posted the pictures on her own 45th birthday.
“Happy birthday role model queen of queening” commented Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer. “Beautifully said 💗💗💗” added powerhouse Reese Witherspoon, with whom Kaling has been collaborating on the long-in-development third Legally Blonde movie. Other fans were simply stunned that Kaling could keep a secret so well.
Mindy Kaling has always kept her family quite private. She’s only announced her children’s births after the fact, is careful not to reveal their faces on social media, and hasn’t publicly addressed the question of who their father is or how they were conceived. Which hasn’t stopped many from assuming their dad is her longtime friend and collaborator, B.J. Novak. “It doesn’t bother me,” Kaling told Marie Claire in 2022 about the speculation. “He’s the godparent to both my kids—and they have such a great relationship—and so far [the rumors haven’t] affected my happiness at all, it hasn’t affected my kids or B.J.”
“I’m the only parent my kids have…. I think I err on the side of super cautious so that there’s less things that they can potentially be mad at me about down the line,” she added about being tight-lipped about her family. Anne, you have a very smart mom.
