Modesto postpones Spring Festival. Here’s when and where it will be rescheduled

A Modesto festival canceled in March makes its appearance in April instead, and the Modesto Symphony Orchestra returns for a program at the Gallo Center. Those are just two of the upcoming Modesto region events and entertainment options.

Spring Festival

The City of Modesto’s Spring Festival has been rescheduled from March 23, when it included an Easter celebration. The all-ages event offers games, face painting, arts and crafts, a bounce house, bungee run, chalk art, photo booth, water safety education with a life jacket giveaway and more

In Their Shoes Walk

HAVEN, Healthy Alternatives to Violent Environments, presents the In Their Shoes Walk to support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking in Stanislaus County. Anyone may walk. Announcements begin at 9:30 a.m. outside the Gallo Center for the Arts. A post-walk gathering will be held at Greens on Tenth, 953 10th St.

Modesto Symphony

The Modesto Symphony Orchestra presents Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, led by Music Director Nicholas Hersh, at the Gallo Center. The weekend’s concerts will feature the works of Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla (Tangazo) and French-composer Louise Farrenc (Symphony No. 3 in G minor). The program also includes an arrangement by Hersh of Bach’s Fugue in G minor. The concert will conclude with Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, featuring violinist Tai Murray as the soloist.

Chavez, Huerta celebration

The Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta Birthday Celebration begins at 1 p.m. at Cesar Chavez Park in Modesto with a march on the sidewalks led by Casa Cultural AZTECA Dancers. People also can take their cars and “cruise,” according to a press release. A celebration will be held at the Red Event Center, 921 Eighth St., Modesto, from 1:30 to 6 p.m. with traditional Mexican music by Mariachi La Union, ONDA Band and DJ Equis. There also will be entertainment by Ballet Folklorico Los Falcones and Casa Cultural Azteca Dancers. Mexican food and sodas will be sold, and there will be a full-service bar. Keynote guest speaker with be State Sen. Marie Alvarado-Gil.

Youth talent showcase

The State Theatre hosts the Modesto Youth Talent Showcase, featuring area youth while helping a charity. Five local groups will perform, VMI rock band, The Dance Academy, The Central Valley Youth Chorus, the YES Academy and Ballet Folkorico. Proceeds will support the Homemaker Program, which provides housekeeping services to senior citizens.

“Little Shop of Horrors”

Sierra Repertory Theatre presents “Little Shop of Horrors” in Columbia State Historic Park. In the show, meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant. The eccentric carnivore promises fame and fortune to Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it blood, according to a press release from SRT.
