Mount Pleasant residents asked to temper outdoor water use

The Mount Pleasant water system is approaching supply capacity, prompting the County of Brant to implement outdoor water use restrictions — including limiting lawn watering and filling pools to specific days and times.

“The water supply system is under stress,” a subscriber email from the county said.

With a “history of excessive outdoor water use” in the system — which supplies Mount Pleasant and Tutela Heights in Brantford — a three-tiered conservation program was introduced to ensure the water is available to all residents of the area for “essential uses,” according to the county website.

“This strict conservation measure will eliminate the need for a complete ban on outdoor water use for this system,” the email went on to say.

Restrictions include:

  • Use of a sprinkler or hose to water lawns and gardens or wash cars: limited to once a week, within specific days and times. Gardens can be watered any time with a watering can.

  • Pools, hot tubs, fountains or garden ponds: can be filled once a week, within specific days and times.

  • Washing decks, driveways or patios: not permitted.

When to use outdoor water:

  • Between 7 and 9 a.m., and 7 and 9 p.m., one day a week.

  • Addresses ending with an odd number select an odd numbered calendar day weekly.

  • Address ending with an even number select an even numbered calendar day weekly.
