Mounties identify 'suspects' in rash of ATV, dirt bike thefts in Carbonear area

Murder charge laid in Fort Qu'Appelle death

RCMP in Conception Bay North say they are on the trail of those responsible for a rash of all-terrain vehicle and dirt bike thefts in the Carbonear area over the past 10 days.

"We have quite a few different leads of groups of people we believe are involved with it," said Const. Terris Bourne of the Harbour Grace detachment.

"We have suspects in mind."

Thefts occurring at night

Police say four ATVs and two dirt bikes have been stolen from sheds in Carbonear and Harbour Grace in recent days.

One was recovered on Wednesday, said Bourne.

They are being taken from storage sheds that are detached from the residence and the culprits are sneaking in at night and rolling the machines away. Typically, the keys are either in the machine or nearby, said Bourne.

No arrests have so far been made, and there is a growing sense of alarm in the communities.

"We want to put a stop to this as quickly as possible," Bourne added.

Investigators say they're getting help from the owners of the stolen vehicles, and through social media.
