How much rain from Beryl fell in southwest IL? A sampling of amounts across the region

The remnants of Hurricane Beryl left its mark on our region with a long, soaking rainfall of over 3 inches in some places.

Beryl-related rain began on Monday but most of it fell throughout Tuesday, according to meteorologist Marshall Pfahler of the National Weather Service’s St. Louis office.

National Weather Service statistics show the following total rainfall amounts in inches for the storm over Monday and Tuesday:

  • St. Libory: 3.29

  • St. Louis Downtown Airport in Cahokia Heights: 3.15

  • Edwardsville: 2.98

  • Alton: 2.60

  • Highland: 2.43

  • Scott Air Force Base: 2.33

  • St. Louis Lambert International Airport: 2.21

  • Kaskaskia Lock and Dam: 1.88

  • Carbondale: .98

The National Weather Service’s official daily rainfall amount for St. Louis is taken at St. Louis Lambert International Airport, where the rainfall on Tuesday alone was 2.05 inches.

This amount for July 9 fell short of the daily record of 4.04 inches of rain on July 9, 1942.

Hurricane Beryl struck the Caribbean and the Texas coast and caused multiple deaths before the remnants of the storm made it to the St. Louis area.
