NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal’s Big Chicken to open restaurant near Alliance shopping plaza

NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal is bringing his fried chicken restaurant chain to Fort Worth.

Big Chicken is set to open at 9755 North Freeway in 2024, according to a Department of Licensing and Regulation filing. The restaurant will be located near the Alliance Town Center shopping plaza.

Renovations began earlier this month and will cost an estimated $764,600 with construction expected to be completed by March 2024, according to the restaurant’s filing.

Big Chicken was founded in 2018 and “fuses O’Neal’s home-cooked childhood favorites with today’s trending flavors,” according to its website.

The restaurant chain mainly serves fried chicken sandwiches, along with tenders, popcorn chicken and salads. Side items range from macaroni and cheese, sweet potato fries and a jalapeno coleslaw.

Big Chicken’s Fort Worth restaurant joins other Texas locations in Austin, Houston, Richmond and Lubbock. In total, the chain has restaurants in over a dozen states and is on some Carnival Cruise ships.

O’Neal is no stranger to North Texas, in fact, the big man has a house in the Metroplex.

The 15-time NBA All-Star bought a nearly 5,300-square-foot home in Carrollton for around $1.2 million in July 2022. The house has its own media room and pool, see more photos in the Dallas Morning news.
