Nikki Haley is a Swiftie. Here's what's on her playlist, TV and message to young voters

EXETER, N.H.−Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who has attracted voters as a middle-of-the-road Republican candidate, drew a large crowd at the USA TODAY Network's New Hampshire town hall Thursday where she touched on the Israel war, abortion and other issues.

But just before the town hall, she was jamming to "I Love Rock 'n Roll" by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts and "We Got the Beat" by The Go-Go's.

Haley, 51, talked to USA TODAY behind the scenes about what’s on her playlist, what shows she's watching and how she will make life better for young voters.

Here’s a closer look at what she said.

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley speaks during the Seacoast Media Group and USA TODAY Network 2024 Republican Presidential Candidate Town Hall Forum held in the historic Exeter Town Hall in Exeter, New Hampshire. The former Governor of South Carolina and former United States Ambassador to the United Nations spoke to prospective New Hampshire voters about issues during the hour-long form.

Haley: A Swiftie and news junkie

Haley said she’s reading a lot of news, so she doesn’t have time for “fun reading.”

But she's listening to music all the time.

“I love all kinds of music,” Haley said. “I'm usually listening to music all day, every day. And before I do events, I'm always listening to music.”

One of her top favorites on the playlist: Taylor Swift.

Her other picks include Def Leppard and Meat Loaf.

TV shows she's loving: Yellowstone and Beckham

Haley said one of her favorite TV shows is "Yellowstone," a drama focused on a family ranchers in Montana called the Duttons - a series that former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson is also fond of.

She also just finished watching the Netflix documentary series Beckham, which tracks David Beckham’s rise from London to an internationally-known football player.

How would Haley make life better for young voters?

Haley, a mom of a 25-year-old and 22-year-old, said the most important thing is to be transparent with young voters.

“Tell them everything we know,” she said. “They're smart, they know how to make good decisions, but they deserve to be treated with respect and given the transparency to know exactly what's going on in government.”

She added, “It's their futures at stake and we want them invested and involved in what we do to get to those solutions.”
