Novak Djokovic sets another Grand Slam record - before leading Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd in karaoke singalong

Novak Djokovic has reached a record-breaking 47th Grand Slam tennis semi-final and celebrated by leading the crowd in a karaoke singalong to the Beastie Boys.

The Serb cruised past ninth seed Taylor Fritz, the US number one, in straight sets at the US Open in New York overnight.

In doing so, he reached the 47th Grand Slam semi-final of his career, passing Roger Federer's previous record.

Djokovic is chasing a 13th US Open title. If he reached the final and won it, he would equal Margaret Court's career record of winning 24 Grand Slam singles - his existing 23 are already a record in the men's game.

After his semi-final win, while discussing the extremely hot conditions during an on-court post-match interview, he name-checked the 1986 Beastie Boys hit, Fight For Your Right To Party.

Grabbing the microphone from his interviewer, he said, "OK, everybody ready?" and led the crowd at Flushing Meadows in an impromptu karaoke singalong.

As he belted out the chorus - "you gotta fight, for your right, to party" - many of those in the Arthur Ashe Stadium joined in.

Djokovic, 36, even ended on an elongated "paaarrrtay" - just as in the original.

He faces another American, unseeded 20-year-old newcomer Ben Shelton, in the last four on Friday.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Djokovic thanked those who had helped him achieve his career successes, especially as he grew up in "war-torn" Serbia.

He said: "I don't know how many more opportunities I'll get so I'm trying to enjoy as much as I possibly can."

Djokovic isn't the only top seed to have a 'grab the mic' moment during this year's tournament - in fact, it even happened twice during Tuesday's play.

Another US player, Coco Gauff, did exactly the same thing after she defeated Jeļena Ostapenko earlier in the day.

Gauff said: "I'll take the mic for this one. Coming up next is the number one player in the world at the end of this tournament. 23 Slams, I believe. NOVAK DJOKOVIC!"
