The Ones Who Stole The Show and The Carpet: 2024 Met Gala Edition
Last night, we saw several florals, colors, and textures grace the Met Gala carpet. The first Monday in May is fashion’s biggest and most important night. It’s the one night where all of the celebrities, fashion editors, stylists, designers, makeup artists and Met Museum staff come together for people to enjoy wearable art. This year’s exhibition theme, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, explores archival pieces that will be showcased in the museum. The Met Gala theme this year was ‘The Garden of Time,’ which is a play on the elements of nature, florals, and water, among other elements.
In previous years, Rihanna has held the Queen of the Met Gala title. Her absence this year was surely missed (fingers crossed she’ll walk down that carpet next year), but a few celebrities took on the best-dressed role this year.
Tyla gave us a sandstorm of beauty in her custom Balmain dress made of sand. Zendaya slayed the red carpet with not one, but two looks. Cardi B shut down the carpet at the end of the night with her black gown, which had to be carried by multiple men because the train was so long.
This year’s event was like no other and included a lineup of iconic co-chairs. Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, and Chris Hemsworth all served as co-chairs and some of the best dressed this year.
There were so many incredible looks that it’s hard to choose just one. See how some of our favorite stars honored the dress code and paid homage to talented designers.
Zendaya
After finishing up an exciting press run for her latest movie, Challengers, Zendaya headed to the Met Gala red carpet to continue being a style icon. The actress and Met Gala co-chair stunned in a blue, green and black Maison Margiela one-shoulder gown. While most celebrities opted for florals, her and Law Roach took a different approach in styling her in this piece, designed with berries and leaves.
Bad Bunny
Bad Bunny is this year’s co-chair and definitely wins the award for best-dressed in the menswear department. The singer wore Maison Margiela with touches of floral detailing in his suit. The red stripes on the bottoms with the slight red detailing in the black florals takes this look up another level. Paired with a black floral hat, sunglasses, and animal-inspired tabi shoes, the singer had a very exciting look.
Tyla
She’s known for her hit song ‘Water,’ but her Met Gala look will make you lose your breath. With this being her first Met Gala appearance, the singer took the theme all too seriously. In a one-of-a-kind piece from Balmain, Tyla wore a dress made entirely of sand in the shape of an hourglass. To top things off, she accessorized with an hourglass that she carried onto the carpet.
Ariana Grande
Dressed in all-white and crystals, Ariana Grande looked like a literal fairy last night in custom Loewe. The singer stepped out in her angelic ensemble with Wicked costar, Cynthia Ervio. The design, which Ariana stated is inspired by mother of pearls and her birthstone, features the embellished top part with a flowy bottom. Her glam team even added feathers to the side of her face for the angelic effect.
Kendall Jenner
Kendall Jenner took the archival element of the theme and wore a never-worn archival piece from Alexander McQueen’s Givenchy Fall 1999 collection. Coming straight off the mannequin into Jenner’s hands, Jenner described the piece as “a literal sleeping beauty.”
