Only one Columbus restaurant got less than an ‘A’ in food safety. See last month’s scores

Only one Muscogee County restaurant earned a food safety score lower than an “A” in June’s health inspections.

Last month, health inspectors visited almost 100 Muscogee County restaurants, lounges and other food establishments, but only 28 received visits in June.

Along with inspecting restaurants, other programs environmentalists from the health department work on include tourists accommodations, pools, spas, tattoo facilities or body art programs and manage rabies, well-water and on-site sewage.

Other programs may be taking precedence if a smaller number of inspections are performed, environmental health floating coordinator Danielle Saunders previously told the Ledger-Enquirer.

Of the establishments inspected in June, 14 earned perfect scores and 13 received “A’s”. No restaurants in Columbus required a follow-up inspection last month.

How the grading works

Restaurants receive one of four letter grades that are assigned based on how many points are deducted from 100:

  • “A” grades mean food safety is excellent is achieved by receiving 90-100 points

  • “B’s” are issued when there is “satisfactory compliance” with the business receiving 80-89 points

  • “C’s” mean there is marginal compliance and applied to scores between 70-79

  • “U’s” represent unsatisfactory compliance and are applied to scores of 69 or less.

Establishments that receive a “C” or “U” food safety grade will have at least one additional routine inspection added in a twelve month period, according to state law.
