A grandmother from Ontario might take her daughter’s strong suggestion and finally retire after winning the lottery.
Mary Wray of St. Thomas, Ont., says that while she’s been playing the lottery for 10 years — mostly Instant games — she has never won a big prize.
That all changed when she recently picked up a Cash Words Instant game and had to pause when she realized something was different this time.
“I was playing my ticket when I saw I uncovered all the words and thought, ‘This can’t be right!'” she said. That’s when she scanned the ticket on the OLG app to verify she wasn’t daydreaming.
“I couldn’t believe when I saw ‘Big Winner,'” she said.
Wray won $75,000, the top prize, with the Instant Cash Words game.
She called her daughter to share the big news the next day, only to be met with tears. Overwhelmed with their good fortune, Wray’s daughter encouraged her to “use the money to finally retire.”
While Wray intends to take her daughter's advice, she also plans to use some of the money to pay off bills and finish up some home renovations. But first, she has to let the news settle in.
“I am in disbelief,” she said.
The winning ticket was purchased at Young Convenience on Wellington Street in St. Thomas.
