Over 900,000 Pressure Cookers Recalled Across the U.S. Due to Burn Hazard

The recalled Insignia pressure cookers were sold at Best Buy and Amazon between October 2017 and June 2023

Around 930,000 Insignia pressure cookers are being recalled due to a burn hazard.

Last month, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a nationwide recall of Insignia Multi-Function Pressure Cookers featuring model numbers NS-MC60SS8, NS-MC60SS9 or NS-MC80SS9, as well as inner cooker pots with model numbers NS-MCRP6NS9 and NS-MCRP6SS9, which were sold separately as replacements.

The recall comes after Best Buy received 31 reports of incidents where "contents were expelled under pressure," the CPSC said. Seventeen of those incidents included injuries, some of which were second-degree and severe burns, per the organization.

The affected products ranged in price from $50 to $120 and were sold at Best Buy stores nationwide and on the company's website, as well as on Amazon, from October 2017 through June 2023.

According to the CPSC, the Insignia pressure cookers and inner cooker pots came in six and eight-quart capacities, with the brand name appearing on the front of each unit and on its permanent on-product label.

The model number of the recalled pressure cookers, meanwhile, is also printed on the permanent on-product label, which is located on the side of the product.

The CPSC warned consumers in the recall that they "should always check that the inner pot is not filled beyond two-thirds capacity when pressure-cooking" and ensure that "the lid is fully locked before pressure-cooking is started, and the floating locking valve has dropped before attempting to open the lid when pressure-cooking."

Consumers who have this recalled product should stop using it immediately and should contact Best Buy for a free replacement of the inner pot and floating locking valve for signaling pressure, according to the CPSC.
