The story follows an English gentleman through the changing tides of fortune and fate, who becomes a galley-slave and ultimately the most famous barbary pirate in the Mediterranean Sea. It will be produced by Panorama CEO Mark Pennell and Armyan Bernstein (Air Force One) of Beacon Pictures. Bernstein was most recently an EP on the Kevin Costner western Horizon, which is premiering in Cannes.

Producers are currently shopping for a director with casting targeted before the end of the year.

Pennell, a writer and producer, will be in Cannes and will have a booth at the Palais where he will be meeting with buyers. Catalyst Chairperson Holly Anderson Levow will also be in attendance on behalf of her company to present her projects alongside Panorama. Giulia Lupetti is serving as Panorama’s Head of Communications.

Panorama’s sales slate includes the recently announced Undercard starring Wanda Sykes and directed by Tamika Miller; the thriller Follow Me starring Connie Nielsen and directed by Siri Rødnes; the psychological thriller Broken Bird starring Rebecca Calder; the Spanish magical realism drama Alix starring Cristal Aparicio; action-adventure Switch & Bait directed by Michelle Salcedo and action title Verified Target starring Dominika Walo.

“Independent film companies must expand or die,” said Pennell. “I established Panorama in order to vertically integrate our extensive production capabilities so we could interface directly with existing buyers and exhibitors who are looking for well-crafted, commercial motion pictures.”

“Catalyst Studios is trying to create a roadmap for systemic change and inclusivity in the entertainment industry and we want to inspire and support others to do the same. With a mission to invest in and cultivate a collective of promising new filmmakers to demonstrate the significance of amplifying new voices and the importance of creating a more equitable and diverse film industry,” added Holly Levow of Catalyst Studios.

Catalyst Studios was launched in 2022 by social entrepreneur Holly Levow with a focus on emerging talent and diverse storytelling.
