Pascagoula water outage closes schools and offices as crews look for the leak

Schools in Pascagoula are closed Tuesday as crews look for the cause of a water leak.

At 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, the city said on Facebook the issue seems to be in the southeast quadrant of the city.

“The north quadrant appears to be gaining pressure from the isolations we have been doing,” the post said.

The inclement weather expected Wednesday won’t stop efforts to fix the issue, the city said, and crews are working around-the-clock to fix the water.

The boil advisory issued Monday is still in effect.

Pascagoula students were sent home Tuesday morning due to low water pressure.

“We are closely monitoring the situation throughout the city and will provide further updates as needed,” the school district said on Facebook.

County offices and businesses also are closed because of water issues.

The city reported Tuesday afternoon that contractors are sending regional resources to help find the water leak.

“We now have more personnel to assist with boots-on-the-ground efforts and help us identify and correct this problem,” the city said.

Additional repair crews will be in Pascagoula to help fix the leak once it is identified, the post says.

The city is communicating with residents by social media and direct text messages.

“You may wash hands and bathe in the water without boiling it,” the city advised residents on Facebook. “The main concern is ingesting the water. Any water you use that you may possibly ingest should be boiled for at least one minute.”

The city also was under a boil water advisory for four days in December for a broken pipe.
