Patients relocated due to water leak at Halifax health facility
Several patients in the mental health and addictions inpatient unit at the Abbie J. Lane Memorial Building in Halifax have been relocated as a result of a water leak on Friday.
According to a news release from Nova Scotia Health, five patients have been been discharged or moved to other beds within the system. But the release says more patients may have to be moved.
The release says staff are in the process of notifying families and contacts about patients who have been affected.
Some beds have been taken out of service because of the leak, the release says.
A patient at the facility told CBC News the sprinkler system on the seventh floor activated and staff were unable to turn it off.
He said when he came out of his room he saw water gushing out from under one of the doors. He said staff were using blankets to try to contain the water.
He also said the water made its way down to lower floors in the building.
The release says it is not known when patients will be allowed to return to the unit.
