PHOTOS: People treated to a rare ‘strawberry’ moon on the longest day of the year

People around the world were treated to a delight in the sky on the longest day of the year in the form of a ‘strawberry moon.’

The lunar event was named so by Native Americans because it marks the beginning of strawberry picking season.

This is the first time a strawberry moon has occurred on the same day as the summer solstice since 1967, and it won’t happen again until 2062.
