Poll: Which Dade high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Sept. 10)
Miami-Dade County’s top athletes were at it again this week with more stellar performances as the 2023-24 high school sports season completed its third week.
This week, we resume a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Miami-Dade County high school sports.
Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Sept. 14, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:
▪ Sterling Joseph, Edison, football: Joseph ran for 207 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries to help the Red Raiders remain unbeaten and edge North Miami 21-19.
▪ E.J. Marcelin, Miami Central, football: Marcelin posted three sacks and led the defensive charge as the Rockets beat Booker T. Washington 38-28.
▪ Alberto Mendoza, Columbus, football: Mendoza completed 17 of 19 passes for 261 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Explorers to a 42-14 win at Tampa Jesuit.
▪ Marc Gonzalez, Mater Lakes, boys’ cross-country: Gonzalez ran a time of 16:23.42 to win the FNU Invitational.
▪ Alessandra Perez, Lourdes, girls’ cross-country: Perez ran a time of 19:49.55 to win the FNU Invitational.
▪ Julia Lewkowitz, Ransom Everglades, girls’ volleyball: Lewkowitz totaled a combined 74 kills, 38 digs and six aces to lead the Raiders to the championship of the Nike Tournament of Champions in Wesley Chapel.
