'Powerhouse' Serena Williams to Receive Legends Award at 2024 Kids Choice Awards (Exclusive)

"Serena’s story proves that through hard work and perseverance, everyone can become a legend," Nickelodeon said in a statement

Serena Williams is officially a legend among kids!

PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that the 23-time grand slam winner, 42, will receive the Legend Award at the 2024 Kids Choice Awards on Saturday, July 13 at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, Calif.

"The Legend Award is given each year to an aspirational, game-changing global superstar whose name is synonymous with greatness," Nickelodeon said in a statement about Serena's upcoming honor.

"From Wimbledon to Wall Street, Hollywood to the White House… Serena Williams is a respected, beloved, and celebrated powerhouse. Her ascent to greatness, on and off the court, has inspired generations to reach further, push harder, and never give up on achieving their dreams. Serena’s  story proves that through hard work and perseverance, everyone can become a legend," the statement continued, naming the mom of two "a role model unlike any other."

Throughout her decades-long career in tennis, Serena has earned titles at all four of the grand slam championships, which include the French Open, the Australian Open, the US Open and Wimbledon. In 2014, she held all four titles, a feat that was nicknamed the "Serena Slam."

After earning the Serena Slam, the athlete was named the 2015 Sportsperson of the Year by Sports Illustrated.

The multi-hyphenate has competed in tennis singles and doubles events as her sister Venus' rival and doubles partner. She won the Olympic gold medal with Venus in the women's doubles event in 2000, 2008 and 2012. Serena won a gold medal in the women's singles event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Serena has 73 singles event titles in total and 22 doubles event titles.

Off the tennis court, Serena launched her eponymous fashion line, Serena, in 2018, and a makeup line in partnership with Ulta Beauty, WYN Beauty, earlier this year.

She launched her production company Nine Two Six Productions, in April 2023, with the goal to "elevate female and diverse voices through content that speaks to all," per her official biography.

On Thursday, April 11, the sports icon hosted the 2024 ESPY Awards and in April 2023 it was announced that she'll author two books about her life for Random House — a biography and a book describing the rules of life she's developed as an entrepreneur and advocate.

Past recipients of the Kids Choice Legend Award include David Beckham, Michael Phelps, Dwayne Wade, Kobe Bryant, Derek Jeter and Danica Patrick.
