Prince George's Challenging New Sport Revealed by Dad — Plus, the Tip Prince William's Staff Member Shared

Prince George is sharing the helpful advice with his classmates!

Prince George is taking on a new sport — with some helpful advice from Prince William's staff.

On Wednesday, the Prince of Wales made his first public appearance following a few weeks of limited royal duties as he spent time with Kate Middleton and their three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis — during the kids' school break. William held an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on behalf of King Charles, handing out honors to the recipients.

Former British triathlete Non Stanford was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire at the event, and she told reporters that Prince Willliam revealed his 10-year-old son is competing in triathlons.

"He was telling me how George has been doing triathlon at school," Stanford said, according to PA.

She added, "There is also a gentleman who now works for William, has done a bit of triathlon and has been giving George advice about putting talcum powder in his shoes. George has been sharing his talc with his classmates, and they are all excited about these tips."

It's clear that the Prince and Princess of Wales, both 41, are passing their love of sports and competition down to their children — and they're trying it all. The parents have previously said that Prince George, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, are involved in everything from soccer and tennis to rugby and dance. (Last year, Charlotte revealed her favorite sport of all is gymnastics!)

"What I think is really interesting is that they are all obviously very different temperaments," Kate said last month on a special episode of The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast, adding that "they are growing and trying out different sports."

"They're obviously still really young,” she continued. “It's going to be interesting to see how that grows and develops."

Prince George is also a huge sports fan, from cheering on Prince William's favorite soccer team (Aston Villa!) to chowing down on pizza while watching a cricket match.

The young royal, who is currently second in the line of succession to the throne behind his dad, most recently joined Prince William at the Rugby World Cup to support Wales.

During the outing, Prince George displayed his growing confidence in his royal role. While meeting those with connections to the Welsh rugby team, George showed off his royal handshake — a move he's mastered over the years — with Prince William allowing his son to take the lead and be the first to shake hands. Knowing just what to do, Prince George approached a man and shook his hand as the introduction was made. He then stood by and smiled as Prince William started chatting. A video of the sweet moment, showing how Prince George is gearing up for life in the public eye, was shared on TikTok by a royals fan site and amassed over 3 million views!

Prince George may seem shy compared to his confident sister Princess Charlotte and his carefree brother Prince Louis at royal events. However, that's not always the case.

"He's a cracking lad," a close family friend previously told PEOPLE exclusively.

Added British children’s wear designer Amaia Arrieta, whose clothes the three children have worn for years: "I think George knows the drill by now. You can see he’s really grown into it and looks more relaxed than ever."

Prince George has shown glimpses of his spirited side, especially when joining his parents at sporting events.

Arrieta said George is "really sporty" himself. "It’s something that’s been encouraged from an early age," she added.

While making sure that Prince George has a normal childhood whenever possible, Prince William and Princess Kate are also aware that they are raising a future monarch.

"It's a massive balancing act," one palace insider told PEOPLE. "William and Kate are doing the right thing, protecting him so he can have as normal a childhood as possible, but he's also dipping into duties as a future monarch. He’s getting firsthand experience of what it’s like to be a royal and a monarch and firsthand experience of being a normal boy."
