Rowing P.E.I. recovers from snow disaster

Rowing P.E.I. is doing what it can to replace racing sculls destroyed earlier this winter.

The club lost four of the nine sculls when the roof of a barn where the equipment was being stored collapsed.

Two racing sculls used for training youth were destroyed, as well as two of the club's coastal boats.

In addition to the sculls, the rowing club's new trailer was damaged but it can be repaired.

Club president Mike Gibson says he is hopeful the replacement sculls will arrive before the season begins.

"We're probably looking at a loss of in the fifty thousand dollar range for replacement but we were insured and the insurance is a great step in helping us rebuild," Gibson said.

A crowd funding campaign has begun to help cover expenses not covered by insurance. The fund will also help pay for additional storage for the fleet.
