Santos agrees to interview with comedian Ziwe: ‘Let’s do it’

Former Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) on Sunday agreed to an interview with comedian Ziwe, in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

“Let’s do it,” Santos posted on X, with an emoji of a winking face with a tongue.

Santos was responding to an exchange between Ziwe and another account on X, which posted a photo split of Santos and Ziwe, writing, “This interview would irreversibly change the course of history,” adding, “@MrSantosNY you’d be an iconic guest cc @ziwe.”

Ziwe agreed, saying that prospect is “my literal dream.”

“@MrSantosNY would you be interested in a pay-per-view interview? you’d be an iconic guest,” Ziwe, whose full name is Ziwe Fumudoh, added in the post to which Santos replied.

Santos was expelled from Congress on Friday in a historic move. The final vote was 311-114-2, exceeding the necessary two-thirds majority threshold, with 105 Republicans joining nearly all Democrats in supporting Santos’s ouster.

The expulsion vote marked the end of a dramatic term in office and ultimately came after the Ethics Committee produced a report showing Santos “blatantly stole from his campaign” and “deceived donors into providing what they thought were contributions to his campaign but were, in fact, payments for his personal benefit.”

Santos has also been charged on allegations that he misled donors, unlawfully received unemployment benefits and charged his donors’ credit cards without their consent, among other claims. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Santos’ departure from Congress has spurred questions about what comes next, with reporters previously asking whether he has gotten any offers to appear on reality shows.

“Saturday Night Live” parodied Santos in the cold open this weekend. Bowen Yang played Santos’s role, pretending to give a press conference after his expulsion vote.

“This entire country has been bullying me just because I am a proud gay thief,” Yang said, adding, “To hell with Congress, I don’t need them anyway. Because my new movie opened this weekend, it’s called ‘Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce.’”
