Sexual assault, incest charges laid against Sherbrooke man

A Sherbrooke, Que., man accused of child abuse has been arraigned on additional charges including sexual assault and incest following his and his wife's July 21 arrest.

The 34-year-old man is now facing eight more charges, in addition to the four that were laid last week against him and his 27-year-old wife.

The couple were arraigned last week on charges of forcible confinement, assault, assault causing bodily harm and failure to provide the necessaries of life to a child. Those charges were in relation to only one of the three young children removed from their home.

On Thursday, the man was arraigned on three charges of sexual contact with a minor, three charges of invitation of sexual touching with a minor, one charge of sexual assault and one charge of incest.

Three children, aged four, five and six, were removed from the couple's home in Sherbrooke and placed in foster care outside of the city.

An older child, aged 14, was not living with the couple. Six of the eight charges are for incidents that allegedly took place between 2005 and 2008. The other two charges are for offences allegedly committed between 2013 and 2014.

Under the province's Youth Protection Act, neither of the parents can be identified because it would identify the children.
