A stretch of Raleigh’s Oberlin Road will close near NC State University this month

If you take Oberlin Road to and from N.C. State University’s main campus, you’ll need to find an alternate route for a while starting this weekend.

The city plans to close Oberlin between Clark Avenue and the roundabout at Pullen Road, near Hillsborough Street, for 10 days while workers replace water and sewer pipes under the pavement.

The closure is scheduled to begin Friday, Nov. 10, and run through Nov. 20.

People who live or work along that stretch of Oberlin will still be able to get in and out, but no through traffic will be allowed. Detour signs will direct people to use either Woodburn Road or Enterprise Street, both parallel streets.

The city calls the utility work “extensive,” and says crews will work around the clock to limit the closure to 10 days.

The utility work is part of a larger effort to overhaul a half-mile stretch of Oberlin near the Village District. That project began earlier this fall and is expected to take a year as city contractors replace sidewalks and create new on-street parking, bike lanes and bus stops.
