TCU’s Mike Miles Jr., Damion Baugh not picked in NBA draft

Neither TCU star point guard Mike Miles Jr. nor teammate Damion Baugh were selected in Thursday’s NBA draft.

The two-round draft and 58 selections were made at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

However, for Miles, the night didn’t end so poorly. The Athletic reported that he signed as an undrafted free agent with his hometown team, the Dallas Mavericks.

The former Horned Frogs helped the team make it to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances. In both appearances, TCU lost in the second round, to Arizona in 2022 and to Gonzaga in 2023.

Miles originally declared for the 2022 NBA draft, but chose to return to TCU to improve his draft stock and lead the Horned Frogs to another postseason appearance.

This year, Miles chose to forgo his senior year and commit to the draft.

Miles was named to the All-Big 12 second team and the AP All-Big 12 second team in his sophomore and junior campaigns and was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman team in his first year. He also played in the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup where he and TCU head coach Jamie Dixon led team USA to a championship game win over France, 83-81.

He was the first Horned Frog to be named to the Big 12 All-tournament team two seasons in a row. In 2022-2023, he also missed eight games due to injury or sickness.

This was Baugh’s first declaration for the draft, choosing to go pro after four years in college ball.

Prior to the draft, DraftKings Nation projecred Miles would not get drafted the biggest reason Miles would not get drafted because of his 6-foot-2 height. The site compared the guard to Payton Pritchard with his “absolute star ceiling” being Jalen Brunson.

The local talent graduated from Lancaster High School before staying close to home to play college ball in Fort Worth.

Baugh can still get signed as an undrafted free agents, go to the NBA G-League or sign overseas with an international league.
