The Latest Optical Illusion To Rule The Internet Will Make You Go Dotty

It’s a simple game of join the dots.

Except it isn’t simple at all - it’s impossible.

Take a look at the latest optical illusion to take the internet by storm.

Whatever way you look at it, you are likely to see dots that are constantly moving across a grey grid.

However, in reality there are 12 fixed dots in the image. It isn’t magic - or a gif.

It is pretty impossible to see more than a handful of dots on the grid in one glance, even though there are a dozen.

Our brains just won’t give us permission to see them all.

The image was posted on Twitter by video game developer Will Kerslake, and has been widely shared on Reddit.

“There are twelve black dots at the intersections in this image,” he tweeted.

“Your brain won’t let you see them all at once.”

One redditor wrote after viewing the image: “It’s like playing whack-a-mole with your eyes”.

The illusion works because of our inability to recognise objects when they are clustered together.
