The Umbrella Academy season 4 will see Netflix’s popular superhero family bow out with one final adventure that — according to the cast — is their best yet.

Based on the graphic novel series of the same name by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way, The Umbrella Academy made its small-screen debut in 2019, introducing us to a family of adopted superhero siblings who struggle to see eye-to-eye.

Throughout three seasons, we’ve watched the family try to stop an impending apocalypse, time travel, cause a new future apocalypse and try to fix that upcoming disaster - all while attempting to resolve their strained family bonds.

The Umbrella Academy season 4 will see the family come together for one last outing — but what will it entail? Here’s everything we know about it so far.

The Umbrella Academy season 4 will debut on Netflix on Thursday, 8 August, with each of its six episodes dropping at the same time.

In the meantime, the show’s previous three seasons can be found on the streamer right now. Why not binge them while you wait for the new adventure to begin?

There’s no trailer for The Umbrella Academy season 4 but we do have a little behind-the-scenes sizzle reel that lets us in on what we can expect from the show’s final outing.

According to series star Ritu Arya, who plays Lila Pitts, it’s “the best season yet.”

Arya’s not the only cast member to sing season four’s praises, either.

“[It’s] really, really packed with classic Umbrella Academy family nonsense and shenanigans that you look forward to,” explains Emmy Raver-Lampman AKA the Umbrella Academy’s Number Three Allison Hargreeves. “There’s some unbelievable new characters and villains that are super exciting.”

Warning: The Umbrella Academy spoilers lurk below

Those unfamiliar with the show might not know that The Umbrella Academy follows superhero siblings Luther (Tom Hopper), Diego (David Castañeda), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Allison (Raver-Lampman), Ben (Justin H. Min) and Vanya (Elliot Page).

The first season takes flight when the group’s sibling Five (Aidan Gallagher) returns from the future with news of an impending apocalypse, forcing the family to try and stop it from happening.

Season two finds the disaster averted, with each sibling living in a different time period throughout the early 1960s. However, when a new disaster rears its head, the family must pull together once more to prevent it from coming to pass.

By season three, the family find that their actions in the past have come back to haunt them in the present, resulting in a new Umbrella Academy super-group taking their place and a new disaster to avert.

According to Netflix, The Umbrella Academy season 4 will take the issues caused by this alternative timeline as its main inspiration, explaining that “there are new enemies who want to see [the family] wiped from existence, but how do they face them without their powers? And will the siblings ever get them back?”

Those struggling to keep up with the plot can peruse the streamer’s season 4 poster which chronicles their timelines so far.

They’ll also be joined by some big-name guest stars, including Civil War’s Nick Offerman, Will and Grace’s Megan Mullally and comedian and actor David Cross.
