Tim Heidecker Announces New Music Album ‘Slipping Away’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Tim Heidecker is back with new music.

Titled “Slipping Away,” the album will be released Oct. 18 by Bloodshot Records. Announcing the new record, Heidecker put out a music video for the lead single, “Well’s Running Dry,” about writer’s block — and aging.

“As soon as I wrote that, I worried that itʼs not cool to talk about,” Heidecker said in a statement to Variety. “But a second later, I thought — well thatʼs challenging and exciting. Letʼs push past that.”

Described as his “warmest and fullest record to date,” “Slipping Away” was recorded with the Very Good Band — Eliana Athayde on bass, vocals and additional production; Josh Adams on drums; Vic Berger on keys; and Connor “Catfish” Gallaher on guitar and pedal steel. Plus, there’s a special contribution from Timʼs daughter, Amelia.

Working with the band gave Heidecker’s music an exciting live feel. “Having been doing quote-unquote ʻentertainmentʼ for 20 years now in different forms, it was a revitalizing experience to be out of my comfort zone a little bit. It was a learning opportunity,” Heidecker said of recording “Slipping Away.”

The album’s 10 songs “tap into universal anxieties, familiar settings, and, occasionally, a blast of apocalyptic unease,” per the press release.

While Heidecker is perhaps best known for his work with Eric Wareheim in their comedy duo Tim & Eric, as well as his appearances in films like “Bridesmaids,” “Us” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” he isn’t interested in categorizing his art between comedy and music.

“I finally got to a point where I was like, ʻLetʼs stop thinking about these things as genres.ʼ It comes out in different formats but hopefully it all becomes one big thing that Iʼm making. I think itʼs fairly united,” Heidecker said.

Additionally, Tim Heidecker & the Very Good Band will support Waxahatchee with Snail Mail on a run of East Coast dates, including a co-headlining show with Snail Mail at New York’s SummerStage. Tour dates and ticket information can be found here.
