Tim Walz Memes Celebrate Harris’ Pick for VP in the 2024 Election

After days of frantic speculation, Kamala Harris has officially chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to be her running mate in the 2024 presidential election. The decision comes after an intense vetting process of Harris’ top picks — including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear — that drew comparisons to America’s Next Top Model. While deliberations were underway, the internet took a shine to Walz, a genial former public school teacher who has championed progressive policies like universal school meals and paid sick leave. He’s also taken a lot of cute pictures with animals.

Social media immediately erupted with overjoyed memes celebrating Harris’ choice. In the final days, Harris was reportedly deliberating between Walz and Shapiro, who some progressives lobbied against because of his staunch support for Israel and strong criticism of pro-Palestine student protests.

Given reports that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi helped convince Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 race and that she favored Walz as VP, some people read this decision as another win for Pelosi.
