Tory MLAs ante up for no-meet colleagues

Premier Alison Redford is defending a decision to have all her MLA's help repay the money some of them made while sitting on the so-called "no-meet committee."

"I'm really proud of the team for doing it," she said. "It really speaks to what our values were as candidates during the election and since that time and I'm very pleased that we've been able to completely pay back every single dollar."

That committee hadn't held a meeting for years but the MLA's who were members earned $1,000 a month.

The controversy spilled into the spring election campaign when Redford felt compelled to promise that Tories on the committee would pay the money back.

The 61 members of the Tory caucus chipped in $2,700 to help their colleagues, some who owed more than $30,000.

The Wildrose Party says its MLA's paid back what they owed and the Tory MLAs are ducking accountability.
