Towson guard Nick Timberlake, who has entered transfer portal, to visit KU on Friday

Nick Timberlake, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound senior combo guard from Towson University, who entered the NCAA transfer portal on March 9, will make an official recruiting visit to Kansas this weekend, Jayhawkslant.com reports.

Timberlake — he averaged 17.7 points (on 45.5% shooting), 3.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game last season — visited North Carolina on March 28-30. His visit to KU will begin Friday, The Star has learned.

Known for his three-point shooting, Timberlake hit 92 of 221 threes in 2022-23 for 41.6%. He made 84.5% of his free throws and had 79 assists to 78 turnovers. Timberlake averaged 35.7 minutes a game in 33 games. Towson went 21-12 a year ago.

The Braintree, Massachusetts native who was named first-team all-CAA at season’s end, scored 34 points versus College of Charleston, 32 points against Hofstra. 31 points versus Hampton and 29 points against Delaware.

He has reportedly heard from coaches from KU, North Carolina, Indiana, St. John’s, LSU, Ohio State, UCLA, Xavier, Auburn, Boston College, Connecticut, Clemson, Iowa State, Maryland, Memphis, West Virginia and others.

“Playing in the CAA, I would like to take a step up,” Timberlake told 247Sports.com. “Whether it be a power five school or a high-level team, I want to go somewhere where I feel comfortable. I am open to all options but my main goal is to play at the highest level. That plays a big role. I am looking to be an impactful player on a winning team. I want to compete in March Madness and get my feet wet in the tournament. It would be a great thing to accomplish.

“I feel I can bring a scorer’s mentality and veteran leadership. I have played in over 100 games in my college career and have been a part of a winning program at Towson for the last two years. I have been the main guy for those two years and I feel that will help me impact winning at an even higher level,” Timberlake added.

KU one of four on Spears’ list

Primo Spears, a 6-3, 185-pound sophomore guard from Georgetown University, who recently entered the transfer portal, tells On3.com he has a final four of Kansas, TCU, Arkansas and Florida State.

A native of Hartford, Connecticut, Spears averaged 16.0 points, 5.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds for the Hoyas, who went 7-25 in 2022-23.

Spears connected on 194 of 475 shots for 40.8%. He hit 27 of 90 threes for 30%. Spears played his freshman season at Duquesne, averaging 12.7 points and 3.0 assists a game.

Spears told 247sports.com he will visit TCU on April 14-15. He said he would hold a Zoom call with KU coaches Tuesday or Wednesday.

“I want to make my decision right after I take all my visits. The goal is to take all four but I don’t know what will happen. I want to take all of them and the only way I don’t take all four is if the vibes, brotherhood, family, and what’s presented is something I can’t turn down,” Spears told 247sports.com.

Of KU, Spears said: “They have a lot of people leaving and coach (Bill) Self expressed to me that they want me in the backcourt. I’ll be hearing a lot more in detail over Zoom but I know they want me to come and bring my winning mentality.”
