Driver gravely injured after his Coca-Cola truck flipped on I-95 near Miami Gardens

A Coca-Cola truck driver was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries Thursday morning after his vehicle overturned on Interstate 95, shutting down for hours nearly all southbound lanes, according to authorities.

The crash happened around 4:30 a.m. near Miami Gardens Drive in North Miami-Dade County.

“A tractor trailer lost control while attempting to avoid a traffic crash up ahead,” Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Alex Camacho said in a statement. “As a result, the tractor trailer collided into the guardrail, causing it to overturn, spilling its load of soda & water bottles onto the roadway.”

The driver was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

CBS News Miami footage showed the Coke truck’s cargo spilled on the roadway and a bulldozer clearing out the soda bottles and boxes.

An industrial-size crane arrived to put the 18-wheeler back on its tires. Southbound traffic delays went beyond Pembroke Road in Broward County, nearing Hollywood Boulevard.
