Transylvania women’s basketball team to be honored at White House. Here’s how to watch.

The Transylvania University women’s basketball team is learning that a national championship comes with a lot of perks.

The latest of those for the 2022-23 Pioneers will be a visit to the White House on Monday as part of the NCAA’s College Athlete Day celebration in Washington, D.C.

Transylvania capped a 33-0 season on April 1 by defeating Christopher Newport University 57-52 in Dallas to win the NCAA Division III national championship, the first in school history.

On College Athlete Day, dozens of championship teams across all sports and NCAA divisions will be welcomed in the White House by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.

“We are truly honored to be able to represent Transylvania, the city of Lexington and the Commonwealth of Kentucky at the White House next week,” said Holly Sheilley, Transylvania’s vice president of athletics. “Our players, coaching staff and our entire campus community have found joy in their journey this season and the opportunity to be recognized at a national level with championship athletes from all over the nation is one we are proud to have.”

The Pioneers’ national championship victory marked the culmination of years of continued, high-level success for head coach Juli Fulks and the Transylvania program.

Dating back to last season, Transy has won 60 of its last 61 games. The Pioneers have compiled a 99-10 record over the last four seasons, with five consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships.
