Trial starts in hit and run that killed good Samaritan

A good Samaritan who was killed on Anthony Henday Drive two years ago was struck so hard by a passing vehicle that fabric from his sock was embedded into the asphalt, an Edmonton court was told Tuesday.

Andrew Green, 46, died on June 13, 2012 while he stopped to help a stranded motorist.

Green sustained a catastrophic head injury when was struck from behind by a passing vehicle.

The trial of Kieran Porter, the man accused in the crash, started Tuesday.

He pleaded not guilty to careless driving and failing to stop and offer help to an injured person.

In the first morning of testimony, the court was shown pictures of the aftermath of the collision.

A police officer testified that the impact lodged Green’s body against the wheel well of his own car.
