TTC ticket collector suing police over G20 arrest

A TTC ticket collector is suing Toronto police for over $3 million, claiming his charter rights were violated during the G20 summit.

Elroy Yau, 39, says in his statement of claim that he was walking to work on College Street near Elizabeth Street when he was thrown to the ground by plainclothes officers.

Yau says he was dressed in his TTC uniform.

"I was nailed hard onto the ground, so hard that my glasses and my watch broke," Yau told the community radio station CKLN shortly after the incident.

Yau said he spent 29 hours at the Eastern Avenue Detention Centre and was ultimately released without charge.

None of Yau's charges have been proven in court.

A spokesperson for Toronto police said he needed more information about the lawsuit before he could respond.
