Tuesday’s girls’ rewind: Delanie Hill’s career night helps Providence past Garinger

Providence High’s girls’ basketball won at Garinger Tuesday night 75-68 behind a career-high 33 points from senior guard Delanie Hill.

Hill, who played for Charlotte Hornets’ LaMelo Ball’s 1-of-1 Academy last season, has helped the Panthers to an 11-11 record this season. A year ago the Panthers were 10-14.

“The season has been super exciting,” Hill said. “I’m not ready to leave high school basketball yet, but I’m also ready for what is next.”

Panthers’ first year head coach Rachel Petre left coaching to become an athletic director before returning to coaching. Like Hill, she’s been rejuvenated coming back to Providence.

“This is really why I (coach),” Petre started, “it’s for the kids. The hard work they put in at practice, they are there for each other. You really can’t ask for anything better.”

Providence has one more game in the regular season. The Panthers will take a two-game win streak into Friday’s game at East Mecklenburg. The chance to finish the regular-season with a winning record is a major goal.

“We’ve got to stick to the game plan,” Petre said. “Watch the film, and our guys will keep their heads in it and do what it takes to take care of business.”
