TV channel, kickoff time set for Clemson vs. Florida State football game
The ACC has announced a kickoff time and TV channel for Clemson’s highly anticipated home game against No. 3 Florida State next Saturday.
The Tigers will kick off against the Seminoles at noon on Saturday, Sept. 23, the conference said Monday. ABC will broadcast the game from Clemson.
Even though Clemson’s season-opening loss to Duke made this matchup lose a bit of its luster (and most likely a primetime TV slot), it’s still one of the ACC’s premier 2023 regular-season matchups.
The Tigers (1-1, 0-1 ACC) are the reigning ACC champions and have been the league’s standard bearer as of recent with six straight College Football Playoff appearances and four national championships from 2015-20. They’ve also won seven of the last eight ACC championships.
But as preseason No. 9 Clemson has tripped up early this season, FSU has established itself as one of the best teams in the country. Florida State was the preseason No. 8 but used a marquee win over then-No. 5 LSU to jump all the way up to No. 3 in this week’s AP Top 25.
The Seminoles, who got three first-place votes this week, haven’t been ranked that high since the 2017 season and will come to Upstate South Carolina next week as one of the hottest teams in the country behind quarterback Jordan Travis, wide receiver Keon Coleman and a host of other veterans and contributors.
Clemson got back on track after a 21-point loss to unranked Duke by routing FCS Charleston Southern 66-17 in its home opener last Saturday, a game in which quarterback Cade Klubnik had a career-high four touchdown passes.
But the Tigers still dropped out of the AP Top 25 for the first time since November 2021 in Sunday’s Week 3 poll, finishing first among teams receiving votes (essentially No. 26) but 20 points behind No. 25 Iowa. Four other ACC teams — No. 3 FSU, No. 20 UNC, No. 21 Duke and No. 22 Miami — are ranked.
Clemson will host Florida Atlantic on Saturday (8 p.m., ACC Network) before getting into conference play with FSU. Florida State, coming off a 66-13 win over against Southern Miss, will open ACC play at Boston College this Saturday before its Clemson trip.
Clemson has won seven straight games against Florida State dating back to 2015, but last year’s game (34-28 Clemson in Tallahassee) was the closest since 2016.
