UK's tallest rollercoaster opens in Surrey

The tallest rollercoaster in the UK is opening at Thorpe Park in Surrey.

The adventure park says Hyperia is the tallest and fastest rollercoaster in the country - exceeding 80mph (129kmph).

The ride includes 3,264ft (995m) of track, is 236ft tall and has the tallest loop in Europe, according to the park.

Thorpe Park director Neil Poulter had told BBC Radio Surrey that riders would experience a "weightlessness feel" and feel "like you're slightly coming out of your seat".

During the ride, thrill-seekers will be turned upside down three times, including a dive loop. The attraction also includes a splashdown element over a lake.

The theme park said the "state-of-the-art rollercoaster promises to deliver an adrenaline-pumping experience like never before".

The final piece of the track was lifted into place in March.
